Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (Heidi) and Protection of Patient Information

At Tara Road Medical Centre, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred care while
safeguarding the privacy and security of all personal and health information.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (Heidi)

Our medical centre uses an artificial intelligence (AI) clinical documentation tool known as Heidi to support clinicians during consultations. Heidi is used solely to assist with the creation of clinical notes and
administrative documentation, allowing clinicians to focus more fully on patient care.

Heidi does not replace clinical judgement or decision-making. All clinical records generated with AI assistance are reviewed, verified, and approved by a qualified health professional before being added to the patient’s medical record.

Privacy and Data Protection

We take our obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 seriously.

The use of Heidi complies with these requirements, including:

  • Collecting and using patient information only for the purpose of providing healthcare
  • Ensuring information is handled in a lawful, fair, and transparent manner
  • Limiting access to patient data to authorised staff only
  • Taking reasonable steps to ensure patient information is accurate, secure, and protected from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse

Patient information processed through Heidi is treated as confidential health information and is subject to the same security controls and safeguards as all other clinical systems used by our practice.

Patient Rights

Patients retain all rights under the Privacy Act 2020, including the right to:

  • Access their personal health information
  • Request correction of their information
  • Ask questions about how their information is collected, used, and stored

If a patient has concerns about the use of AI during their consultation, they are encouraged to discuss this with their clinician.

Ongoing Oversight

We regularly review our systems, policies, and processes to ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and
professional standards, and to maintain patient trust.
