Marja originally comes from the Netherlands. She has worked in the Bay of Plenty since 2003 as a GP and as an Accident & Medical doctor and is fully dedicated to her profession. Through her career she has built up a broad set of skills.

Her special interests are accident & medical care, children’s health, female (sexual) health and contraception. She is married and has 2 children. If she is not at work, you might find her in the gym.

Medical history

She completed her medical studies in 1991 (NL). She later acquired a post-graduate Diploma in Tropical Health, surgery, gynaecology / obstetrics and tropical medicine (NL). She worked in Africa (Malawi and Tanzania) for five years together with her husband, Dr Martijn Haitsma.
In the UK she obtained her post-graduate degree in general practice (UK;2002) and has worked in general practice ever since.

Martijn  comes from the Netherlands. He has worked in the Bay of Plenty since 2003 as a GP and has a special interest in skin cancer medicine. Through his career he has built up a broad set of skills.

His interests are children’s health, care of the elderly and healthy living; the pragmatic approach, with emphasis on the do’s and not the don’ts. He has a special interest in skin cancer and performs skin checks for which there are dedicated clinics.

He is married and has 2 children. If he is not at work, you might find him playing tennis or squash.

Michelle Meyer

Nurse Practitioner

After being a Nurse for over twenty years, Michelle retrained to qualify as a Nurse Practitioner, advancing her expert nursing knowledge to diagnose and prescribe. She has been in this role for nearly four years. She was brought up in Maketu and after living away for many years she and her husband moved back to the area, now living in Papamoa with their two children. Other than hanging out with her family, she also coaches a Papamoa College girls hockey team in her spare time.

Work History

She completed her Nursing studies in 1994. Worked in Auckland city for many years in general practice as a practice nurse before moving to the BOP. She was working as a Practice Nurse at a Maori Health Practice in Bethlehem before completing fours years of study to gain her postgraduate Diploma in Health Science in Advanced Nursing, and Masters in Nursing (with First Class Honours) to then qualify in 2017 as a Nurse Practitioner where she continued to work with this high needs population. She has a interest in Long Term Medical Conditions such as diabetes, COPD and heart failure, but is looking to advance her training in Acute Care Medicine.

Clinical Psychologist

Nemsha Naidu is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with 15 years of experience in the mental health and forensic setting. She is a member of the New Zealand Psychologists Board and the New Zealand Psychological Society. She is a registered ACC treatment provider.

Her practice focuses on the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and adults.  Her experience spans a broad range of mental health conditions and health related issues including pain management, past or recent trauma, grief and bereavement, and adjustment difficulties.  She is trained and proficient in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Guided Mindfulness, selecting the therapeutic modality best suited to individual needs. She uses a collaborative treatment approach in working with individuals, couples and families. Nemsha consults at Tara Road Medical Centre on Mondays and Thursdays.
